Event Overview
Red Dirt Shooting Sports youth will be competing at the Jackson County OSU Extension annual air rifle competition. This regional competition brings together young shooters from across Jackson County to compete in standard three-position, standing, and silhouette air rifle events.

Registration Requirements
- Be enrolled in 4-H for at least 30 days
- Age as of September 1st of current calendar year
- Minimum age: 9 years old
- Complete pre-registration form
- Submit by email by noon on November 14, 2025

âšī¸ Age Determination: Age as of September 1st of current calendar year (in line with state competition requirements)
Competition Events
1. Standard Three-Position Sporter Air Rifle
- Target: NRA AR 5/10
- Distance: 10 meters (33 feet)
- Course of Fire: 3 x 10 shots each position: prone, standing, kneeling (30 record shots total)
- Time Limit: 1 minute per record shot
- Equipment: .177 caliber air rifles under 7.5 lbs; metallic peep sights permitted; minimum 1.5 lb trigger pull
- Approved Rifles: AirForce Edge, Crosman CH2000/CH2009/CH2021, Daisy M599/M853/753/953/853CM/887/888/XSV40, Air Arms T200, Champions Choice T200
2. Sporter Air Rifle Standing
- Target: NRA AR 5/10
- Distance: 10 meters (33 feet)
- Course of Fire: 30 shots standing in three rounds (10 shots per target)
- Time Limit: 10 minutes per target; 1 minute per record shot
- Equipment: Same as Three-Position
3. Sporter Air Rifle Silhouette
- Target: Paper Silhouettes (TQ 14)
- Course of Fire: 10 chickens, 10 pigs, 10 turkeys, 10 rams at 10 meters
- Shooting Position: Standing (standard position)
- Time Limit: 30 seconds ready time; 2.5 minutes firing time per line
- Scoring: 7.5 points per hit; shot touching outline counts as hit
Equipment Requirements
Rifles: .177 caliber air rifles under 7.5 lbs with metallic peep sights
Clothing: Soft, low-cut athletic/street shoes only (no boots). Shooting gloves permitted. Up to two sweatshirts allowed. Shooting shirts and 4-H vests permitted. No shooting jackets.
Safety: Clear Barrel Indicator required when rifle not being fired

Yes! Red Dirt Shooting Sports youth may be eligible for scholarship support covering registration fees and equipment. Contact info@reddirtshootingsports.org.
â What should I bring?
Your approved air rifle, ammunition, safety glasses, hearing protection, appropriate clothing (soft shoes, up to two sweatshirts), and any personal items needed. All equipment must meet competition standards.
